Buena Vista/Salida, CO
For a relaxing, quiet weekend away from the city, travel 3 hours south of Denver and you will find the towns of Buena Vista and Salida. Just outside of Buena Vista book a cabin at Rainbow Lake (the “rustic” 18 cabins situated on the lake book up fast).  Salida is a great place for white water rafting with many galleries and shops. Be sure to have lunch or dinner at the Laughing Ladies Restaurant in Salida as well. It also makes a great fall weekend trip.

Taos/Santa Fe, NM
If you have a little longer to wander about, consider a drive to Taos or Santa Fe, NM via highway 285. It’s approximately 400 miles but a beautiful drive if you are not in a hurry. Stay at La Posada De Santa Fe or Inn of the Anasazi. Be sure to have a traditional New Mexican breakfast at Café Pasqual’s in Santa Fe. Lambert’s in Taos always has an inspired menu. While in Santa Fe treat yourself to Ten Thousand Waves Japanese Spa and Resort as well. There are so many great restaurants and hotels in both Santa Fe and Taos for every budget. During the warm months visit the Santa Fe Flea Market; it has a bit of everything and goes on, it seems, for miles. The famous outdoor Santa Fe Opera is an experience not to miss!
